Born in Jersey City and raised in the Panama Canal Zone, Jeff Lowe followed in the wake of his ship captain father to a seafaring career, working in “the black gang” on oil tankers as an engineer. He quit the sea to become a newspaper reporter, dry cleaner repairman, proposal writer, and corporate flack—but mostly to be a husband and father. He left the business world to care for his parents, both of whom had Alzheimer’s disease, in 2013. The father of three adult daughters, he now lives with his wife in rural Alabama, where he built a little white cabin, writes stories and songs, and tends a pine plantation and a bass pond. He holds bachelor’s degrees in marine engineering and nautical science and a master’s in journalism. His debut novel, The Book of Cain, was published in August, 2018, followed by the novella “The Relic: A Sea Story,” released in August, 2019. His third novel, Rufus, came out in 2021.
