His fiction combines scientifically grounded speculation with questions about family, identity, power and humanity's future beyond Earth.
Before turning to fiction, Clift worked as an international news correspondent for Reuters and in magazines and institutional publishing, becoming a nonfiction publisher, communications consultant, and writing coach. A graduate of the London School of Economics and George Washington University, he has lived and worked in cities around the world, including Beijing, Bombay, Cairo, New Delhi, Jakarta, London, Manila, Paris and Washington, D.C.
His nonfiction work has included interviews and profiles of leading economists and policymakers, including Nobel laureates Daniel Kahneman and Vernon Smith, and he has edited books and collections on economics, globalization, development, and public policy.
