Sixteen books in. Still writing.
Joe Houghton is Assistant Professor and Academic Director of the MSc in Project Management at UCD Smurfit Graduate School of Business. He advises University College Dublin, the Institute of Bankers, and the Royal Photographic Society on AI — and spends most weeks delivering training to corporates, government departments, and educational institutions across Ireland.
His "100 Ways AI Can Help..." series is a working toolkit, not a theoretical overview. Every book is packed with copy-paste prompts and techniques tested with real clients and students. If it doesn't work in a classroom or a boardroom, it doesn't make the cut.
He started his career as a computer programmer. That background — systematic, practical, deeply sceptical of hype — shapes everything he writes and teaches. He works daily with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and emerging platforms, writing only about what actually works in practice.
He also wrote seven photography books and three project management titles, and spent fifteen years as Nikon's trainer in Ireland. He now chairs the board of Shine, Ireland's national mental health charity.
He lives in Dublin with his wife Penny and their four children — and still has the first book he ever wrote, aged five. Crayoned illustrations and all.
