Joseph Mahar is married and with his wife, Susan, have raised 5 children. After obtaining his BS degree in biology, he spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia. Upon returning to the states, he earned an MS degree from Michigan State University and PhD from Rutgers University, both degrees in entomology. His career of forty-two years has been consulting with farmers raising tree fruit, field crops and vegetables in Integrated Pest Management as a private consultant in Michigan and as an employee of Rutgers University in New Jersey. He enjoys broad areas of science, as well.
