My Story
I'm Justin. I'm a writer, teacher, father, and believer in the power of human beings. I grew up near Madison, WI, then moved to Minneapolis, MN for college. After graduating, I joined Teach For America, believing that I could be a force for good. This brought me to Kansas City, MO, and I've been here ever since. I've taught both English and Math and the middle and high school levels. I have also been a team lead and instructional coach for much of that time.
Values in My Life
My wife and I work at the same school, and our son attends the daycare there. Our school's mission and values have been essential to my work, and my work has been essential for filling my life with purpose and meaning. Living and working according to a set of values was a new concept to me, and it has changed the way I view life. This new perspective also changed the way I think about parenting. Though I have only been a father for a few years, I have spent a great deal of time involved in the lives of incredible young people. Growing and learning alongside them has helped me to sharpen my own understanding of what matters to me in my own life, and what I want to be true for the lives of my children. My wife and I are working through the values-driven approach together.
My Writing
I have been writing daily for over half my life. It wasn't until recently that I created something that I thought could benefit others. I hope that reading what I have written gives you an opportunity to think about your own life and what you want from it. I also hope that if something in my writing sparks meaning or change for you, that you share your reflections and experiences with me.
