First and foremost, I would much rather learn about you than talk about me. However, this is a biography, and although my life has been a series of complex twists and turns filled with both smooth sailing and rough seas, I will endeavor to provide a peek into my life as the author of The Adventures of Domino Corgi series.
I was born in Upstate New York and resided there through grade school, high school and a year at a local junior college. After that, I moved away. I married young. We have been married for over 60 years. At first, we lived in California but that was during the Vietnam War years. Life in San Francisco and Berkeley was challenging during those years—lots of protests, classes cancelled. We moved to Boston with the idea that we wanted to focus on our education. I was fortunate to get good job at Boston University and earn my bachelor’s degree. When my husband completed graduate school, we moved to New York City where I completed a master’s and doctoral studies in psychology.
I worked as an Industrial & Organizational Psychologist for many years. Consulting and research were my focus. I now live in Maryland with my husband, John.
My love of corgis began during my childhood. Corgi was her name. She was rehomed by my parents due to a family crisis—our corgi was run over by a car. Caring for her was difficult for my parents. The trauma of the accident and the rehoming lingered over the decades. When my husband and I relocated to Princeton, New Jersey, our home was well suited for adding a Pembroke Welsh corgi to our family of two cats, Boots and Molly. We welcomed Domino corgi first and then two years later we adopted Penni corgi. Two years after that, we adopted Benny corgi. All our dear cats and corgis have crossed the rainbow bridge. Now we have a delightful Pembroke Welsh corgi, Sunni, a joy in our life.
From early childhood, I created stories and characters. I did not write them down. I had no idea I was a writer. I played dress up and acted out characters. I thought about writing, but it seemed too far a reach for me—way beyond my skill level. But the question remained—what to do with a head full of stories. I had no idea what to do. With no clear path, I put this part of me aside. I did not give up—but I did tuck it away.
I found it more practical to focus on going to school, forging a career. I enjoyed the consulting work I did. I traveled. I worked with people in across a wide range of professions. And I did a lot of writing—research reports and the like. My decision to create an independent and stable life with my husband and our pets turned out well.
However, the urge to tell stories never left me. Writing beckoned. But the beckoning did not end with wanting to write. Writing a series geared to youngsters in the 8 to 11 age range beckoned—the sweet spot when youngsters are ready for more complex stories but not ready for stories with more adult themes. The lead character, Domino corgi, was never up for debate. One beckon led to another beckon and before I knew I had a cast of characters with stories to tell.
When I decided not to continue doing consulting work (also known as retirement), I took a couple of writing courses. One worked wonders. I learned how to remove the barrier between wanting to write and actually writing. The course taught me premise building and structure—exactly the tools I needed to craft my stories.
I hope you enjoy The Adventures of Domino Corgi as much as I enjoyed bringing the characters and their stories to life.
So far, four books in The Adventures of Domino Corgi series have been published: The Hexe; The Ghost of Kellytch Hall; The Curse of Old Chief Cave; and, The Mystery of Three Oak Manor. I am currently working on the fifth book in the series with an expected publication date in the latter part of 2026.
