A recovering bureaucrat, Lucinda Shirley worked for South Carolina Senate for decades. She also has founded and led a nonprofit health advocacy organization. But she was born to write. She was a features writer, then editor-in-chief, of her high school newspaper. At the University of South Carolina, she wrote a weekly column for the student newspaper "The Gamecock."
Lucinda is a member of the South Carolina Writers Association, the Southeastern Writers Association, the Academy of American Poets, and the Poetry Society of South Carolina. Her work has appeared in Sandlapper Magazine, Skirt!, The Quill, The Petigru Review Vol. VI, Inner Landscapes, The New Guard Vol. V, Intimate Landscapes, and Pluff Mud Mag. She also wrote poems and essays for Auntie Bellum and Midlands Woman Magazine, no longer in print.
Lucinda is a South Carolina native living in Columbia. Her first book, Dancing on Mars, was written at Belle Isle in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Published by All Things That Matter Press in 2012, it's available at Amazon. Shaking Off Gravity and Kairos, released in April, 2024, by Pounce Pot Publishing are also at Amazon in both paperback and Kindle/ebook. You can connect with the author on Facebook at Lucinda Shirley, Poetry Peddler—Author.
Lucinda continues celebrating her freedom from a daily grind, with the greatest demands on her time now coming from Max. He's the little canine hedonist and mischief maker who shares her habitat and most of her bed. Lucinda is passionate about people she loves, including Max, of course, writing poetry and prose, and being part of progressive politics, human rights, justice and gun safety legislation. Like the joy of good times and the peace of solitude, Lucinda’s sense of humor continues to play a leading role in Act lll.
