Mark Cattano grew up on the water and beaches of Long Island. He left college during his senior year when he realized that his schooling was getting in the way of his education. He moved to New York City, and soon after arriving he learned that his older brother Steven had become ill with AIDS. In a moment of inspiration he decided to ride his bicycle from San Francisco to New York to raise money for AIDS research. He wrote songs and played in rock bands for the next two decades. Along the way, he met and befriended many colorful characters that inform his storytelling. He lives in New York with his wife and two sons.
