Thompson." - Erick Thompson, CFAX MARK LEIREN-YOUNG is a filmmaker, playwright, journalist, comedian and author of numerous books, including The Killer Whale Who Changed the World (winner: The Science Writers and Communicators of Canada award) and Never Shoot a Stampede Queen (Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour). Leiren-Young's documentary, The Hundred-Year-Old Whale, won the 2018 award for best documentary from the Writers Guild of Canada. He is currently finishing a feature length film documentary version of The Killer Whale Who Changed the World and writing a new middle school book about orcas for Orca books. He hosts the popular podcast, Skaana - which covers the latest news on orcas, oceans and the environment. His play are produced around the world. His play, Shylock, is in repertory in Prague until 2020.
