Mark Silinsky, Ph.D, is a 38-year veteran of the defense intelligence community. He has served as a senior analyst in U.S. Army intelligence; an Army civilian foreign area officer (FAO) for Eurasia, Russian language; an Africa analyst for the Defense Intelligence Agency; an action officer for the Joint Staff, J5; and a research fellow as part of the Exceptional Analyst Program. He was graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Southern California; received an M.Phil in international relations from Oxford University, under the supervision of Sir Michael Howard; and took an MS and a Ph.D in international development from Tulane University. He was graduated from the National Intelligence University, the Naval War College, and the National Defense University. He is also a 2008 graduate of the Afghanistan Counterinsurgency Academy, located near Kabul. He is the author of “Taliban - Afghanistan’s Most Lethal Insurgent Group,” "Jihad and and the West - Black Flag over Babylon," and "Empire of Terror- Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps."
