Martin Hesp has spent over 50 years at the sharp end of British journalism, starting his career as a junior reporter at 17 and eventually becoming the Senior Feature Writer and Columnist for the Western Morning News and Western Daily Press.
A multi-award-winning journalist—including titles for Feature Writer, Columnist, and Environmental Journalist of the Year—Martin’s career has taken him from local flower shows to filing copy for The Guardian and the BBC World Service. This deep-rooted connection to the English West Country and his decades spent scrutinising the details of rural life provide the authentic backdrop for his fiction.
He is the author of the historical bestseller The Last Broomsquire, which has sold over 5,000 copies, and the children's novel The Deer Park.
With his latest series, beginning with The Cornish Snapper: The Granite Mystery, Martin introduces Lammoran and Hamilton—a dynamic duo reminiscent of Holmes and Watson. Drawing on his own experiences in the newsroom, he explores the intersection of investigative grit and the art of photography. When not writing or recording his podcast, Adventures in Journalism, Martin can be found exploring the rugged landscapes of Exmoor National Park, where he lives with his family.
