Matt Fox is an executive coach working with senior leaders at midlife looking to the final decades of their career. His practice is built on a simple conviction: that the second half of life is not about preparing for a wind-down. It is, if approached with honesty and intention, the most purposeful stretch of the road.

For most of his thirties and forties, Matt was doing what high-achieving men do: building, pushing, trying to think his way towards answers that never quite arrived. The questions that mattered most were the ones he kept deferring. Then, in December 2016, a close friend died by suicide at forty-nine, provoking a question he could not defer any longer: 'If you have the gift of a long life ahead, what are you going to do with it?'

What followed was the slow, sometimes uncomfortable work of stripping back the identity he had built to reveal a truer version of himself. He began sitting, week after week, with other men holding their own versions of the same question: men in technology, founders, business owners, outwardly impressive lives, inwardly a low hum of something that no promotion or financial success had answered.

The pattern they showed him, again and again, is the pattern at the foundations of this book.

Matt's work draws on the Three Principles, Ontological coaching, Psychosynthesis, and Somatic practice. What he has found, across years of close conversation with men in the last stretches of significant careers, is that the shift that changes everything is not primarily what a man does. It is who he understands himself to be while he is doing it.

He lives in the UK with his wife and two sons.
