Meilani Schijvens lives in Juneau Alaska. Mapmaker’s Mistake is her first work of fiction. She has a Master of Science from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Colby College.
Meilani is the owner of Rain Coast Data, a research and economic consulting firm. Ms. Schijvens has authored hundreds of economic publications. Her work has been cited by several national publications, including the New York Times and the Washington Post. She is also the owner of Rain Coast Fables.
She previously taught Alaska Natural Resource History at the University of Oregon, served as a staffer to the US Legislative Minority Leader in Washington DC, and worked at the Greens Creek Mine. She has two teenage sons.
