Melanie Weiss is the author of two Young Adult novels: Crossing Lines and Spoken, which won a 2019 Readers' Favorite Book Award for Young Adult - Social Issues. In December 2020 she published the illustrated early reader chapter book Oliver's Birthday and the Robin's Nest. She is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and worked as a journalist for newspapers and magazines for 20 years. She began writing her debut novel, Spoken, shortly after her younger child left for college in 2015 and she became an “empty nester.”
