**Mireille Calmel** began writing at the age of nine when she fell seriously ill. While doctors declared her condition terminal, she survived by holding on to the belief that as long as she kept writing, she wouldn’t die. Poems, songs, plays, short stories, novellas, and eventually novels allowed her, over the months and years that followed, to regain a normal life as a teenager and later as a woman, with the birth of her two children.
Despite everything, she continued to write with a visceral need until one of her novels, **“Le lit d’Aliénor” (The Bed of Eleanor)**, was selected by Bernard Fixot, CEO of the publishing house XO. The book became an international bestseller in 2002, selling more than 1.5 million copies.
In 2004, Mireille Calmel married Gérard Sansey, with whom she had been sharing her life since 1995. Sansey is also a recognized author, writing in various fields, including a pedagogical series published by Belin: **“Les cahiers d’exercices de la méthode Boscher”**, a workbook series focused on learning to read.
Today, Mireille Calmel boasts more than 18 million readers worldwide and has sold over 4 million books in France. Her bestsellers have been translated into 15 languages. Her strong, independent, and determined heroines, as well as their adventures inspired by real events and meticulously researched, continue to captivate and inspire her readers.
Since January 2024, she has been closer to her readers than ever. Through the **Kesselmedia** platform, she publishes two weekly newsletters offering additional insights into the characters, settings, and real-life events that shape her novels, as well as exclusive texts. One of these, **“Le secret de Margaux” (The Secret of Margaux)**, was published via KDP in 2024.
Since 2020, her son **Anaël Calmel-Train** has been following in her footsteps as an independent author. His first novel, **“Le serment de Jaufré” (The Oath of Jaufré)**, is the prequel to **“Le lit d’Aliénor”**, whose creation had accompanied his childhood. To date, he has written several novels and, like his mother, has garnered a growing number of readers.
