Mohamed Elgayar was born in Egypt and educated in English schools, growing up in a liberal and cosmopolitan environment that fostered an early appreciation for languages, travel, and cross-cultural understanding. He began his professional career in finance, but over time his interests expanded toward deeper intellectual, philosophical, and spiritual inquiry. While living in New York, particularly in the years following September 11, he was frequently asked questions about Islam because of his Egyptian background. These conversations led him to recognize how distant he had become from his own religious foundations. Seeking clarity rather than inherited assumptions, he turned directly to the primary source of Islamic faith: the Holy Qur’an. What began as personal curiosity evolved into a sustained journey of reading, reflection, translation, and study. As a native Arabic speaker, Elgayar approached the Qur’an not as a classical scholar, but as a seeker of understanding. For him, translation became a disciplined method of inquiry, exploring meaning, coherence, moral implications, and the internal consistency of the Qur’anic message through direct engagement with the text. When asked why he undertook another translation of a book that has already been translated many times, his answer is simple: this work began as a personal search for Certainty (Yaqīn, يقين), particularly ʿIlm al-Yaqīn, the knowledge of certainty. His writings form part of The Path of Certainty (Yaqīn) series, an exploration of the Qur’anic journey from understanding to conviction, and from conviction to lived realization through knowledge, self-purification, accountability, and faith expressed in action. These works are offered not as scholarly authority, but as reflections born of sincere inquiry, lived experience, and a commitment to intellectual honesty. Their purpose is to encourage readers to engage the Qur’an thoughtfully, reflect deeply, and pursue certainty through understanding. Allah knows best. Mohamed K. Elgayar
