Nikolai’s love for storytelling began with his wonderful aunt. The stories she told made him laugh, think, and just want to read everything he could get his hands on. His mother also had wonderful editions of the original Grimm fairy tales. Eventually he got to read series like the Dragonriders of Pern, Lord of the Rings, and the Dresden Files. All of them helped him on the path to being a fantasy sci-fi fan for life.
He got the wibbly-wobbly idea that he could learn how to write, so at the naive age of 16, started and stopped. That was his pattern as a writer for nearly ten years until he went to DFWCON, made friends, and started to really dig into everything writing entails. Characters, structure, dialogue, and his long hated enemy: grammar. If you asked some of his critique partners, he seemed to either ignore or have a personal vendetta against commas.
Nowadays he is mostly listening to audiobooks to save what little space he has and enjoy the stellar work of the many amazing narrators out there!
