NotTheChosen1 has been picked last for every team sport he has ever played, several individual sports that do not require teams, and one spelling bee.

He was selected second-to-last exactly once, in the fourth grade, when the boy behind him broke his arm on the walk over. He still counts it.

No prophecy has ever mentioned him. He has checked. He was examined for a distinguishing birthmark at the age of nine by a great-aunt who described the results as "well, never mind." He has bought a raffle ticket at every school fair, church fete, and office fundraiser he has attended since 1987, and has won one jar of pickled onions in a category he did not enter. He has never found money on the ground. He owns a metal detector, which in six years has produced a bottle cap, a tent peg, and somebody else's car keys, which he returned, and for which he was not thanked.

In twenty years of tabletop gaming he has never once rolled a natural twenty at a moment that mattered. He has twice rolled one while opening an unlocked door.

So he writes about a man who is handed everything.

Walt Corrigan gets unlimited power by accident, in an emergency, through the only door available to him, and then spends an entire series quietly trying to work out what a person is actually supposed to do with it. NotTheChosen1 finds this a genuinely interesting question, and suspects he would have handled it considerably worse.
