With an academic background in Anglo-Saxon History (University of Leeds (1986-90), Paul Bernardi writes fast-paced, action-packed adventures set in the later part of the Anglo-Saxon period. His acclaimed first series (The Huscarl Chronicles) followed a young warrior in the service of King Harold Godwineson who comes of age on the battlefields of Stamford Bridge and Hastings. Surviving the ensuing carnage, Thurkill then has to plot a path through the new Norman-run landscape, all the while yearning for revenge.
His second trilogy (Rebellion) moved the action forward to 1068-69 and the north of England. Traditionally a land beyond the reach of the West Saxon Kings of England, local rivalries and ancient feuds prevail. That is until the Normans begin to turn their gaze in their direction, determined to bring the whole of England under their control. Against his better judgement, Oslac finds himself drawn into a bitter struggle for the survival of a nation, an identity and a way of life in the face of encroaching Norman brutality.
Now signed to Boldwood Books, Paul Bernardi is working on a new multi-part series (Blood and Oath) set during the tumultuous events of the reign of King Aethelstan. Book 1 in the series is slated for release on 14 December 2026.
Paul lives in Cheshire with his wife and dog, Boz (short for Bosworth ... yes, that one [1485]) from Bosnia. His two grown up children show no interest in his love of history, despite (or probably because of) having been dragged round innumberable castles in their youth.
