Paul Durbin is the founding pastor of Belay Church in Boulder, Colorado, where he and his wife Patty have been helping people experience transformation through belonging, believing, becoming, and belaying others since 2019.
Paul’s ministry began in the Midwest, where he served as a pastor for ten years—first as a youth pastor, then as lead pastor. He holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Biblical Studies from Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, North Dakota.
In 2008, Paul and Patty followed God’s call to China, beginning an eleven-year adventure. After studying Mandarin in western China, Paul taught intercultural communication, speech, and English at a university in southern China. For the final six years, he pastored an International church in northern China, learning to lead across cultural and denominational lines.
Paul and Patty have four kids who have grown up across continents, campsites, and a home that’s often full of guests. When Paul’s not preaching, writing, or meeting someone for coffee, he’s likely on a trail with his family or restoring an old camper.
