"I have always felt that literature, like the life it reflects, is an examination of the mortal condition of us all. Everything and everyone are equally doomed to end. It is an undertone that runs beneath our entire existence. It makes our triumphs bigger, our joys more joyful, and gives added meaning to our lives. We celebrate romance for those who find it in their measure of time. We weep for those who don't. Even in my lightest and most jubilant stories, there is always that backdrop of fate. My favorite authors made great use of that pathos in their works. Clarke, Bradbury, Tolkien, and countless others, no matter what story they were telling there was always a sense of mortality, and an inexorable feeling of sadness somewhere. Only one of my published stories is based almost entirely on that concept. It is called "We Were Here!". It's a short little tale about mortality, time, and even the fragility of life." Paul Howard is an author, screenwriter and film maker, his screen credits include the cult classic "Night Terror" (1990) and the "Hunt For the Desert Apeman" in collaboration with M.L. Behrman. He published his first novel: "The Galley"(2012) and its' short story extract: "The Unthinkable (The Great Fire of Rome)"(2012). His newer books are "Timelines: The Beethoven Incident"(2013) and the first installment of "The Palindrome Chronicles": the short story "We Were Here!(2013)" In October 2013 "Phoenix Part One: Spooks" was published. His newest published work is the second installment in the Timelines Series, "Timelines II The Lost Forever" (2015). After spending his early years in the Midwest, Paul migrated to Southern California where he received most of his education. There is an old saying: "You can take the boy out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy." Paul says "That's true in my case". Although he's lived in L.A. most of his life, the simple ways of Southern Illinois are still close to his heart: "I love the opportunities to get away to the quiet of the deserts and countryside. It helps me think. My joys in life are playing the guitar and spending time with my grandchildren, as well as writing!".
