I write stories about ordinary people pushed into extraordinary situations—sometimes in the near future, sometimes in the deep past, always with both feet planted in something real. I’m a middle-aged Canadian, a dad to a son who’s growing up too fast, and I share my home with a stubbornly loyal dog. Before I focused on writing, I spent years teaching and working on the front lines of mental health support. That work—and the people I met—still sit in the background of almost everything I put on the page.
I love science and history, so most of my stories steal from both—climate and evolution, memory and community, how people adapt when the rules change. I try to write books that go deep without preaching, and that leave room for the quiet, messy, human moments between the big set pieces.
