I grew up in a small coal mining town in southwestern Virginia. I quit high school in my junior year, and I could not read past a fourth grade level. A teacher at Mountain Empire Community college recognized my difficulties in reading and took the extra time to help me. I hope my story will help others to work past their difficulties and learn to read.
