When I was twelve, my grandmother took me to pan for gold in a local creek. She showed me that if you scraped dried moss off the dry riverbank rocks, you might find gold hidden underneath. She told stories while I dug and panned. The one that stayed with me most was about her brother, who never made it home from the war.

That is probably where writing started for me, though I would not have called it that back then.

I write about people trying, failing, forgiving, and doing what they can to survive. I do not want the shiny version of a life. I want the small things that make people real. The stubborn habit. The bad timing. The quiet kindness. The memory that comes back years later and still makes you wince.

I love history, especially the Civil War and Gold Rush eras. I love the outdoors, old photographs, hard country, family stories, and the details most people walk past.

When I write, I think about people I have known. Their humor. Their scars. Their stubbornness. I picture myself as them and try to find the part that makes them real again.

Stories that stick with you.
