Renée DiResta is an Associate Research Professor at Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy. She was previously the technical research manager at the Stanford Internet Observatory. Her work examines propaganda, influence, and adversarial abuse — for example, how rumors move across networks, how algorithmic amplification manufactures the appearance of consensus, and how institutions should communicate through an information crisis.
She is the author of Invisible Rulers: The People Who Turn Lies into Reality, and a contributing editor at Lawfare. Her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, Wired, Foreign Affairs, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Columbia Journalism Review, The Guardian, POLITICO, Noema, and The Yale Review, as well as academic journals.
DiResta received the 2024 Carl Sagan Prize for Science Popularization. She has been a Presidential Leadership Scholar, a Truman National Security Project fellow, an Emerson Collective Fellow, and a Mozilla Fellow in Media, Misinformation, and Trust.
