I’m Richard Blackthorn, award-winning author of Eclipse: The Silence of Heaven, a gothic historical horror novel inspired by the real darkness of 536 AD, one of the most mysterious and devastating years in recorded history.
My fiction explores the intersection of history, faith, mythology, and horror. I'm drawn to stories that ask difficult questions about hope, sacrifice, and what remains of humanity when the foundations of our world collapse. Rather than relying on horror alone, I strive to create stories where atmosphere, character, and meaning are inseparable.
Originally from Connecticut, I now live in Charleston, South Carolina. When I'm not writing, I'm often researching forgotten history, ancient civilizations, and the myths that continue to shape the stories we tell today.
Eclipse: The Silence of Heaven is the first novel in The Howler Chronicles, a series that blends Byzantine history, theological horror, and dark fantasy into a world where faith is tested beneath a year without sunlight.
