Ron Stempkowski is an award-winning writer, essayist, and lifelong journaler based in the Chicago area. His work explores love, loss, reinvention, and the quiet moments that shape who we become, often with a mix of honesty, warmth, and gentle humor.
He is the author of The Luck We Carry: Love, Loss, and the Stories That Shape Us, a collection of personal essays born from grief, gratitude, and the long, winding process of writing his way forward after the death of his husband, Ken. Writing, for Ron, is both a creative practice and a way of paying attention to memory, meaning, and the stories we carry with us.
In addition to his books, Ron is the founder of Twisted Plot Paper, a journaling brand designed to help people reconnect with their own stories through pen and paper. A certified journal therapy coach, he believes deeply in writing as a tool for reflection, resilience, and possibility.
When he’s not writing, Ron can usually be found volunteering with his local library, walking his golden retriever Hudson, or filling another notebook with thoughts he’s still figuring out.
