A portfolio career like no other, as a curator-author-sexual culturalist my profound curiosity in the human animal (how we live, what we create, how we interact) is rooted in my background in Anthropology. With a focus on gender, my interests have brought me everywhere from archaeological studies in Mexico, the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii, a think tank in Venezuela, as well as chapters at cultural institutions such as El Museo del Barrio (NYC), Kindred Studios (London), and the truly unique Museum of Sex (NYC), where I served as Curator for more than a decade.
Dubbed a ¨sexpert supreme¨ by Cosmopolitan Magazine, I am a featured cultural expert on media outlets such as the Discovery Channel, the Today Show, and the New York Times. My first book and memoir, Sex in the Museum: My Unlikely Career at New York's Most Provocative Museum (St. Martins Press) charts not only the more than 20 exhibitions I curated, but also the personal side of working in a unique field. Unafraid of tackling taboo social topics, my second book, Mama Sex: How a Perfect Storm Caused a Revolution (Demeter Press) is an anthropological look at motherhood and sexuality.
My background emphasizes the importance of people’s narratives. Working with museums, artists, start-ups, television production companies and individuals, I help bring hidden stories and histories to life. For the last twenty years I have served as an interpreter of the academic and often dry information found in dusty libraries, translating it for the general public all the while making it entertaining as well as accessible. I am proudly one of the original contributors to Motherly Media as well as a member of the Advisory Board for the Vagina Museum in London.
While New York City and London have been my main "hometowns," my earliest years were spent in Flagstaff, Arizona at the edge of the Grand Canyon. I now live in Portugal with with my family and our two Shiba Inus.
