Sarah Hartwell writes for women navigating one of the most transformative seasons of their
lives — pregnancy, birth, and the early months of motherhood.

After more than fifteen years working closely with new and expectant mothers in a maternal
wellbeing setting, she became increasingly aware of a gap in the books being handed to
first-time mums. Most were either clinical to the point of feeling cold, or so relentlessly
cheerful that they skipped over the harder, messier realities women actually live through.
The women she worked with kept asking the same questions, voicing the same fears, and
feeling the same quiet shame about emotions no one had warned them about.

This book is her answer to those women.

Her writing draws on years of conversations with mothers at every stage — the ones glowing
through their second trimester, the ones quietly struggling at 3 a.m. with a newborn who
won't latch, and the ones rebuilding themselves in the months that follow. She believes that
good information, delivered honestly and without judgement, is one of the most powerful
things a new mother can be given.

When she isn't writing, she enjoys long walks, slow cooking, and the kind of quiet evenings
that motherhood teaches you to treasure.
