As I reflect on my very long and storied life having met and worked with so many interesting people those stories fill me up. For years I’ve been a story teller but I have never written them down. Sheribaby is my first offering and I hope you like her. Now I am sixty two, and have two granddaughters. I want to leave them a legacy to share, to pass on, and to be proud of. I set out to write a story that is authentic and will shock the senses, especially those familiar with Jamaican culture, with my use of raw, unbridled patois, spoken with aplomb, throughout the novel. Sheribaby teaches as much as she learns through the language native to her although, on the surface Sheribaby has an uncanny ability to be that lens through which we see ourselves.
The use of expletives and certain idiomatic Jamaican expressions are not done to offend anyone but to keep with the authenticity of the story.
