As the daughter of an Air Force Colonel, I have lived in three countries: Vietnam before the war, France, and dozens of U.S. cities. My life, as told in "Bird of Passage," spans the birth of the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, and the Women's Movement. I am a former social worker turned sales executive who married my college sweetheart. Our mostly charmed life was filled with love, humor, adventure, and tragedy. Together, we raised one son who suffered from mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction.
My second book, "Mac—The Wind Beneath My Wings," tells the story of heroism, courage, and a man of great integrity— someone I was lucky enough to call Dad. Mac was a pilot in WWII and served in the nascent 307th bomb group in Guadalcanal, flying 52 missions in the B-24, and later, with the 39th BG, flew 30 additional missions from Guam until the end of the war. He later served his country during the Korean War, in Indo-China as Air Attaché, and during the Vietnam War.
My third book, "Descent into Dementialand," is the sometimes funny, sometimes sad account of the journey my husband Mike and I began at age 62 when this brilliant, handsome, athletic man developed dementia. I share what I learned about this horrible condition that causes people to gradually disappear. As one reviewer commented. "If you have ever loved someone with dementia or Alzheimer's, this book will break you open and put you back together again."
