Tom Smith grew up on a farm in southern Indiana. While still young his right leg was amputated in an accident, yet with the help of his family he has sustained a strong spirit and sense of adventure. He joined the Conventual Franciscans and was ordained a priest in 1979. Since then he has served in many places in the United States, including with Spanish speaking communities. Among other things, he enjoys playing guitar and singing, gardening, and working with his hands. Currently he is director of Holy Cross Retreat Center in Mesilla Park, NM.
