I spent my childhood in a small seaside resort on the Isle of Wight where my mother ran a guest house for holidaymakers during the summer months. At school my main claims to fame were producing caricatures of the teaching staff and persistent truanting. Despite this, I went on to gain BA and PhD at the University of Exeter and to pursue a career in education, working at the Open University, the Universities of Sussex and Nairobi, then at The National Institute of Adult and Continuing Education. I have always loved reading and writing stories and am now able to concentrate on writing fiction - Aftermath of a Murder , Inheritors of the New Kingdom and A Reluctant Hero are my first novels, and several of the short stories in the collection, Ghosts, Resolution and Revenge have been short-listed for awards. I have three children and an eccentric cat called Noodles. I live in a leafy part of Brighton on the south coast of England. Reading, writing and painting are my favourite occupations but they have to compete with playing tennis and gardening.
