Franz Kafka: Geboren am 3.7.1883 in Prag, gestorben am 3.6.1924 in Kierling bei Wien. Sohn eines wohlhabenden jüdischen Kaufmanns. 1901-1906 studierte er Germanistik und Jura in Prag; 1906 promovierte er zum Dr. jur. Dann kurze Praktikantenzeit am Landesgericht Prag. 1908-1917 Angestellter einer Versicherungsgesellschaft, später einer Arbeiter-Unfall-Versicherung. 1917 erkrankte er an Tbc, was ihn 1922 zur Aufgabe des Berufes zwang. „12 kleinere Werke“ ist ein Erzählband mit dem Inhalt: Beim Bau der Chinesischen Mauer / Prometheus / Erstes Leid / Der Riesenmaulwurf / Heimkehr / Eine alltägliche Verwirrung / Vom Scheintod / Forschungen eines Hundes / Rede über die jiddische Sprache / Josefine, die Sängerin oder Das Volk der Mäuse / Die Wahrheit über Sancho Pansa / Eine kleine Frau.
