Short effective book on war strategy
The book of five rings is a relatively short book on war strategy. In this book written by author Miyamoto Mushashi, an accomplished fighter himself, in his last years details the strategy in five chapters namely ground, water, fire, wind and void (reminiscent of the panca-maha-bhutas in Hinduism). The book of ground outlines what is to follow in the book, and provides the basic philosophy using the example of a foreman carpenter and an individual carpenter. The book of wind describes the five attitudes that a fighter should be aware of when fighting with the longsword. The book of fire describes the strategies for engaging with the enemy with an intention of cutting him down. The book of wind provides a criticisms of the methods of the other schools. Finally book of void shares light on what the void is, and how is it important for a warrior to be familiar with it.
The narration is quite good. The content of Mushashi's text in the audiobook only spans for 2 hours. The last several chapters are soothing flute music.
