Story
Beyond race or class, our lives are defined by a powerful, unspoken system of divisions. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson gives an astounding portrait of this hidden phenomenon. Linking America, India and Nazi Germany, Wilkerson reveals how our world has been shaped by caste - and how its rigid, arbitrary hierarchies still divide us today. With clear-sighted rigour, Wilkerson unearths the eight pillars that connect caste systems across civilisations and demonstrates how our own era of intensifying conflict and upheaval has arisen as a consequence of caste.

A distinguished physicist's exploration of the question which lies at the heart of biology, it was written for the layman but proved one of the spurs to the birth of molecular biology and the subsequent discovery of the structure of DNA. It appears here together with "Mind and Matter", his essay investigating a relationship which has eluded and puzzled philosophers since the earliest times.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's fascinating and humorous quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. He takes subjects that normally bore the pants off most of us, like geology, chemistry, and particle physics, and aims to render them comprehensible to people who have never thought they could be interested in science. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.

Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
See the world. Then make it better.
I am 94. I've had an extraordinary life. It's only now that I appreciate how extraordinary.
As a young man, I felt I was out there in the wild, experiencing the untouched natural world - but it was an illusion. The tragedy of our time has been happening all around us, barely noticeable from day to day - the loss of our planet's wild places, its biodiversity.
I have been witness to this decline. A Life on Our Planet contains my witness statement and my vision for the future - the story of how we came to make this, our greatest mistake, and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right.
We have the opportunity to create the perfect home for ourselves and restore the wonderful world we inherited.
All we need is the will to do so.

Eye-Opener
This is probably best book out of all I had the fortune to go through. David Attenborough is very well known figure among those nature loves who watch Planet Earth, Our Planet, Blue Planet etc. With his remarkable passion for nature, he has been educating on the world around us for decades now.
This book, as the title goes, is divided into two major parts. The witness statement is where he speaks about how we, the human beings, have taken control of the planet without really understanding the profound, long-lasting and irreversible damage that our activities are causing. Some of the facts brought forward are very disturbing.
But, that's not all bad news. In the second part, Vision for the Future, he lists and explains many efforts that have been taken up by scientists, nature lovers and some governments in order to bring down the negative effects of human footprint. Some of those are very much doable in immediate future, and some of them are in theoretical phase right now.
The message is very clear. Nature is going to recover itself with or without human beings. It is in our hands to decide how to let that happen. We belong to the generation that is the first and the last with an opportunity to fix the issues. Reestablishing the bio-diversity, re-forestation, responsible fishing practices, and reduced carbon footprints are the major efforts to be taken up in order to preserve ourselves and the generations to come!
My recommendation is to watch the Documentary (available on Netflix) first and then listen to this book leisurely. Happy listening!

Masterpiece
Sir David presents an eloquent and well-researched narrative of the status quo of our beloved planet. He gives a balanced view of the risks we face and the solutions that are available and that are still needed for humanity and nature to live in harmony. The book is much more detailed than the movie. It is a must read. I also loved that he narrated the book himself, with his familiar and soothing British accent.

The most important book of our time.
I would say, without any doubt, the most important read /watch / listen of our time. David Attenborough's 'witness statement' is stark, however, his vision and solution is quite simple. Imagine a world that has enough food for everyone, no fumes and emissions, clean air and water, less noise, vast woodlands and forests and oceans teaming with life, a global community that actually communicates and works together to exchange ideas and advance our technologies and economies, that helps developing countries reach their economic goals through sustainable food, energy and technology production. A world without poverty and prejudice! We can see for ourselves that what we have done so far, does not work and is not the way to progress!
I personally think this book should be given to every student in every school across the globe🌱
This is our choice.

This book will both terrify you, and show you a glimmer of hope for the future of our children, who will inherit the results of our wastefulness and greed. I kept battling a lump in my throat throughout. What we are doing to our planet is heartbreaking. This book should be taught in schools, colleges and implemented into the laws of every country. Message from our National treasure
There is no doubt information ad argument by this national treasure of a great man, delivered as usual with grace and passion.
I have y doubt whether humans are either too late, or incapable to save our planet, I still do, yet one cannot help but feel inspired by this man that may be if we do what we can as an individual, and encourage others to do the same, who knows with the new normal that comes with the Covid pandemic, May be, just May be, can be done. He is certainly correct that we are the last generation of human that knows about our climatic problems and also the last that can do something about it before it will be too late. It is not being doomed and gloomed; it is the fact!

An honest and thought provoking book
An excellent book which is very honest and factual. This is not the work of someone with an agenda but a trustworthy, very experienced man who has seen many changes in the natural world through out his life. David Attenborough is genuinely fearful for the future of planet earth and clearly explains this, and how we as a species can reverse the destruction of ourselves as well as the planet we inhabit.

His Life for all of us.
Amazing that David wrote this at 93 years of age. This book is his continuing story of a life spent in the natural world and bringing into our lives, our homes, our living rooms. He has had an enormous impact on my life.
A life on my planet is set out and told in David's usual manner. Moving from grim with a host of information to more information exploring what we may do and finally moving to solutions that are already underway.
His explorations throughout this book and indeed thought his life inspires me to do similar. That is to listen, research and come up with actions I might take.
Thank you for this book David and thank you for being a most enjoyable and positive part of my life. My daughter Chloe who is a beautiful woman now, in her earlier years took to giving me books and videos of David's as she knew I loved his work. Now she and her children are part of the solution David talks about. She lives her life with an eye to leaving a small footprint and is a wonderful Mother. Again thanks David. xxxx

Inspired to action
David Attenborough has brought to humanity a clear vision of our impact. In honoring his legacy it is imperative to act upon his message. Let's ensure his film / book are heard and acted upon by politicians and planners world wide. As an individual human consumer, I'm inspired to reduce my own families footprint, adopt better habits and share this with others. Never give up trying to regain the world's ecological balance, that we have so easily disrupted for our own selfish gains. If this doesn't move people to act what will?
With thanks for a life time that has included the brilliant David Attenborough.
