About this listen

It was the perfect vacation fling. And then a body showed up.

Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. About to lose his ancestral home to family debts, charming aristocrat Tom Calder invites his American guest to join him in drinking his way through the estate’s priceless wine collection. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder.

Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them—except the shadowy figures stalking them through the estate's empty halls and lonely woodlands. On the run for their lives, Amelia and Tom must piece together their shifting memories and a string of baffling clues to expose the crime—while navigating their morning-after awkwardness and the undeniable sparks between them. As their unexpected bond deepens, they begin to wonder if their own love story could be one for the ages—if they manage to survive at all.

it’s a modern day fairy tale , enjoyed it a lot . And if you are a book lover and like Jane Austen you would really love all the references. The male character was just as likeable as the female one . Nice for a change . Love the geeky heroine .

Quite enjoyable audiobook

I am a die-hard Jane Austen fan - especially of 'Pride and Prejudice'.

What's not to like when the male protagonist is a Darcy look-alike (Tom), and the female protagonist's last name is Bennett (Amelia)? And they hook up in a countryside abbey, owned by the former, when the latter is on a Jane Austen-themed tour! I was captivated from the first line, and what's more, it kept me glued till the very end.

When Tom and Amelia 'see' a rug being whisked away by two men looking like 'Cyclops', and grey hair spilling from one end of the rug, they suspect they have just witnessed a murder. They search high and low in the sprawling mansion for the body, but to no avail. Eventually, they find that they are the targets themselves and are soon on the run from unknown antagonists. Had they really seen a body being taken away, or had it been their imagination running wild as an after-effect of consuming a centuries-old wine collection?

An unlikely romance between a British aristocrat and an American fabric expert, amidst flying bullets and a crumbling abbey. The suspense is gripping, but it is a light and fluffy read. There are quotes and mentions of characters from Jane Austen's as well as other literary masterpieces. The reader is never sure if Tom and Amelia are being stalked by human villains or ghosts surrounding the estate. A fun read, but a trifle long.
