Publisher's Summary

THE NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY, AND WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER

Dr. Kai-Fu Lee - one of the world’s most respected experts on AI and China - reveals that China has suddenly caught up to the US at an astonishingly rapid and unexpected pace.

In AI Superpowers, Kai-fu Lee argues powerfully that because of these unprecedented developments in AI, dramatic changes will be happening much sooner than many of us expected. Indeed, as the US-Sino AI competition begins to heat up, Lee urges the US and China to both accept and to embrace the great responsibilities that come with significant technological power. Most experts already say that AI will have a devastating impact on blue-collar jobs. But Lee predicts that Chinese and American AI will have a strong impact on white-collar jobs as well. Is universal basic income the solution? In Lee’s opinion, probably not. But he provides a clear description of which jobs will be affected and how soon, which jobs can be enhanced with AI, and most importantly, how we can provide solutions to some of the most profound changes in human history that are coming soon.

Biased and shortsighted

the book is hugely biased towards China.
a few questions for the author to ponder:
1. has China shown any success in taking innovations to the world, or you think they will exist only in their parallel universe?
2. would AI be doing research in future, assume a human hadn't identified cancer as an ailment, would AI still been able to diagnose it?
3. why do you make the assumption that people will use car to travel in future? maybe technology like Holo lens or VR can create a situation where roads will be irrelevant?
4. will AI be able to formulate a unified theory in Physics?

in my opinion there is no answer to human ingenuity. we will continue to redefine our culture and purpose to stay relevant irrespective of government incentives or planned innovation.

Excellent book with interospection on humanness

Author has given a very clear idea of how AI has and going to impact our lives. Also has put in lot of thoughts on how should we gear up to face upcoming challenges. He is very transparent in narrating his life challenges and how has it impacted him to move from Brain to heart. Overall a great book

A bit biased but overall a good and compelling read

There is a reason why this book is among Yuval Noah Harari’s recommendation list. A deep dive into the history of AI, how it reached where it’s today and what lies in future. Kai-Fu Lee, one of the leading minds spearheading the AI revolution shares his insights about how AI will impact our lives and the important role that China and US are going to play in this revolution.
A must read for not just technology enthusiasts but everyone interested in the future of mankind.

A good book to get an overview of AI

This is a good book to get an overview of AI technology even if you are not a technologically inclined person. You don't have to be an expert in AI or even a student of the technology to understand and enjoy this book. It also gives some glimpses into the Chinese technology and start up market.

A necessary and well rounded approach to the subject

I liked the book for the way it approaches the subject of AI as it is today and a possible roadmap we can prepare for. More importantly it draws or attention to some of the important implications that will require attention.
The narration is also well paced and brings out the subtleties quite well.
A good hearing experience that has enriched my thinking along the way.

A narrow bias

I wonder why Kai Fu has been biased against India ; he has mentioned India just once in the entire book - he has ignored the fact the the Silicon Valley has a huge huge number of Indian AI professionals and in ignoring India he has let me and many others down.

Brilliant !

A great read for all AI enthusiasts. Although, it's focused more on the US & China alone, it gives a brief sneak peak of AI's impact on developing economies too.
