There's so much to like in this fantastic tale. Truly a masterpiece in story telling. It takes us back to that period in history that we unfortunately missed. Set against the backdrop of the sanyasi rebellion and Bengal famine, this is a historical thriller potraying patrotitic zeal, apathy of the Muslim and British and the bravery of a a group of Santans, committed to wipe out the heartless rulers and restore Hindu rule in Bengal.
The dark side of the Santans is also brought out beautifully.
The novel has a surreal feel, and the song Vande Mataram became our national song.
The performance of the narrator was outstanding. Must listen.

Great characterization

Dispels the myth of non violence; fictionalises the freedom struggle. Collusion of Muslims with the English also revealed. Diction of the narrator and Hindi shabdavali is excellent

i wouldn't have read this book anyway, i was curious about this 19th century literature and wanted to see how it was composed.

This book would be banned if it was to be released today. The performance is okayish. Really annoying that he can’t pronounce Vande Mataram “normally” even when shouting in slogan is not what the text means. 😆 Must learn vyakaran too.
