Publisher's Summary

Ten strangers, apparently with little in common, are lured to an island mansion off the coast of Devon by the mysterious U.N. Owen. Over dinner, a record begins to play, and the voice of an unseen host accuses each person of hiding a guilty secret. That evening, former reckless driver Tony Marston is found murdered by a deadly dose of cyanide. The tension escalates as the survivors realise the killer is not only among them but is preparing to strike again...and again.

Intriguing!

The most popular ’Christie’ book ever. Intriguing storyline! You’ll be hooked to it from the very first chapter.

It’s not much about the ‘who’. But about the ‘How’.
Its a good starting point for Christie-beginners.
(Alert: Do not skip to the end. The last 2 words of the story is the murderer’s name.)

Hugh Fraser is the narrator in this Audible version. As usual, he’s really good.

P.s: I listened to a YouTube audiobook too. The narrator’s name was not mentioned there. But the voice modulation for certain characters were better in that. However I liked both.

Good audiobook Unsatisfactory Ending

Great setup and started off well enough. The story was good but got too unbelievable as it got to the end. I didn't find the ending of the mystery satisfactory and felt it was too much of a stretch. It was interesting to listen to overall but wouldn't recommend.

One of the most out of the box murder mystery

One of the most out of the box murder mystery i have ever read. Initially it took some time to establish the plot but as story progresses it left you in a utter disbelief and shock and you can never predict who is the murderer and how the incidents are taking place.

Highly rated…with good reason

Ten little soldier boys…it takes a very creative and imaginative mind to concoct a credible story around a nursery rhyme. Dame Agatha has such a mind. Enjoy the book - anything else I say, will be spoilers.

Great story excellent narration

It can’t get better. Hugh Fraser does an excellent job. Many of the readers and listeners would have heard of him as Captain Hastings from the TV series Hercule Poirot. He surpasses himself in the narration.

Needless to say anything about the book. As usual great work by Agatha Christie.

Epic. So gripping.

I write this as an exhausted father of a toddler and a newborn baby. What was initially planned to be a relaxing hour of story time as the kids were put to bed turned into a vivid imaginative rollercoaster and audible marathon. I’m sure my sleep deprived state contributed to how emotionally drained I was by the climax and twist of the book, but wow. Absolutely loved Christie’s storytelling, as always; and Fraser’s narration is well paced and pleasing. Unfortunately, it is now 4am and a poopy diaper needs attending to, whilst I replay the more gripping parts of the book in my mind.

I suppose I'm just not a fan

Okay, so take my review with a grain of salt, if you are a fan of Christie, this title is probably just fine. This was just one of several attempts to break into the author's collection that met with failure. I suppose I'm just not meant to be a fan.

The narrator did a fine job, but I can't really rate the story much higher as I suppose it's just not my cup of tea, so to speak.

"Creepy" Christie. Brilliant !

When I first read the book many years ago, it affected me like none of her other books had done - it frightened me. Not the "cosy" murder mysteries I loved. I have read it again and again since that time ( with decent intervals between) and it still had the same affect on me. Listening to it is not as scary but still enjoyable. Hugh Frazer is a fantastic narrator, not only in this audio book but in every one he tackles. Think I might be listening to " And Then There Were None " in the not too distant future.

Classic Christie keeps you guessing

This is one of the Christie's I first read as a teenager in the 60s (when it had a less politically correct name). None of which detracts from the craft Christie employs to bring together a group of diverse characters, each with their own secrets from the past, to an isolated island, where they are 'bumped off' one by one. The mechanism to get them there is a little contrived, but that is forgotten as the sense of menace and suspicion which imbues what follows builds up and increasingly affects the party and their actions. The lack of sympathy for the 'serving classes' struck me, but this is probably representative of Christie's time and background. It doesn't stop the book being a 'cracking good who dunnit?' though and the characters come through the narrators voice as being distinct and believable. The perpetrator and his/her motives are somewhat a surprise... or at least they were to me!

Fantastic Who Dun It!

Typical Agatha Christie with suspense, drama and twist and turns of a racing track! There is little wonder why this book is the biggest selling crime Novak of all time and Hugh Fraser delivers the story fantastically well that keeps your attention and mind puzzled from beginning to end. Well worth a listen over and over again.

No detective but a fantastic story

Where does And Then There Were None rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is probably one of the best Christie books I have listened to. It isn't the typical detective story that I am used to from Christie but it was fantastic.

What did you like best about this story?

Christie builds up the tension and confusion so well and there was a fantastic plot twist. It was genuinely frightening towards the end. It was a thoroughly good book.

Have you listened to any of Hugh Fraser’s other performances? How does this one compare?

As ever Hugh Fraser read it well and he is so good at performing the different voices.

Any additional comments?

Listen to it!

The finest 'locked room' mystery written

This is my favorite Agatha Christie book, it is the best 'locked room' mystery ever written. Having all the characters stuck on an island with an unknown killer picking them off one by one is the perfect story. We get the back story of each character built up throughout the novel and understand why each person has been picked for this island trip. Particularly brilliant is the epilogue which explains the why's and how's of the murders. A gripping story from start to finish.

Let down by a poor solve

The strong story is very well written and the narrator’s voice gives flesh to the array of very different characters. But the solve relies on recasting facts in an unrealistic way. Pity really, but it’s a bit like Picnic At Hanging Rock - great buildup but fails to stick the landing.

A darkly delicious mystery

What a gem! I absolutely loved this novel, it has all the features of an enthralling whodunnit. The characters are shady, dark and dangerous. Everyone’s a suspect, all harbour guilt and remorse. However, we are kept guessing till the very end. I love Hugh Fraser’s narration, wit and guile. Papa Poirot is absent from this book, but nonetheless it was perfect.

A bit of a slog

My memory of this book is quite different to my experience of it this time. The first half is quite a slog, with no real protagonist to align with. For me, the beauty of Agatha Christie's writing is her sharply drawn but affectionately written characters and her reflections on the human condition. I felt this was lost in the jumble of characters ..this was a plot driven story rather than a character rich one. Hugh Fraser was, as always, wonderful.

Truly magnificent

It’s easy when you know how it’s done! The convoluted and absurd is frighteningly possible in this novel. We are drawn into the characters’ stories and motivations, out suspense and anxiety steadily growing as theirs does.

Great narration but subpar plot

Hugh Fraser does a great job narrating this plot however, I found the plot to be a bit barebones. The epilogue, in particular, felt like a rushed add-on. I much prefer some of Christie’s other works.

Terrific and Timeless!

Agatha Christie is a one in a million writer. I don't think I need to tell you that already?!

A brilliant and extremely unique physiological thriller that captures and embraces the reader from start to finish. Who did what to whom, why, when and how? Plots within plots all the way.

Hugh Fraser did a fantastic performance throughout. Using a great tempo, he builds up the suspense, the intrigue and the noticeable nuances of the psychological. Portraying a forever changing mental state of the human mind in these characters glues you to the spot.

Totally recommend! A must listen for all the Agatha Christie fans out there or for anyone who likes a bit of mystery and who done it.

Thanks to all who made this happen :)

Old school murder mystery

A fun little murder mystery, albeit a little dated. Has that old school vibe of no one really being alarmed at a murder but rather staring at the people at the dinner table about who did it. It’s a genre, and one that Agatha Christie is the champion off so no complaints from me. Fun characters and a fun conclusion.
