Publisher's Summary

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century. In this story of "kindred spirits", McAdams' touching and heartfelt narration proves she is just that - bonded on a deep level to this shimmering classic.

When aging brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help with chores around their farm, Green Gables on Prince Edward Island, neither is prepared for the feisty and imaginative redheaded girl who is mistakenly brought to them instead. Nor are they prepared for the way in which she will change their lives. Through a series of hilarious misadventures, Anne's uncompromising spirit makes her a striking presence in the close-knit village, bringing new friendships, first crushes, and, for her foster parents, a love and openness unimaginable before her arrival.

I'll have this story in my mind for a long time

Definitely loved it! There were so many memorable moments! I especially enjoyed the overdramatic part where she dyes her hair! The way Anne Shirley sees the world is really different and worth knowing 💓

Fascinating listen

Although at first, the book seemed boring, it has proved to be very engaging. I hope that sequels of the book will be published soon.

Sweet, funny, hearty story!

Rachel McAdams' voice is so soothing and calming to listen to! Enjoyed the simplicity of the story and the performance of Anne was lovely. Wish Rachel would read the other books in the series too!

A lucid adjunct to the genre of the Bronte sisters

Written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, a Canadian author, the book ranks more of British English than American
Again, it is written in the genre of the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen
The language is so descriptive, and flows on like a brook
The rendition and performance by Rachel McAdams is so aptly done, as if the book was written for it
The story meanders along with its ups and downs, but rather catching which, though a trifle feminine, makes it difficult to put down

Heart warming book

The book is reminiscent of old world charm. Nature is described beautifully by the writer. A few words like 'kindred soul', 'bosom friend' will remain with me forever. Rachel McAdams has narrated it so well that all the characters come alive. Would love to hear her more. It's a good book for anyone who is a romantic at heart and wants to revisit old bygone times.
