Publisher's Summary

Embark on an epic journey in this all-star cast audio dramatisation of Around the World in 80 Days. This new Original drama features best-in-class performances from Golden Globe-nominee, Emmy-nominee and multiple BAFTA-nominee Toby Jones (The Girl, Directorists, The Hunger Games) as Phileas Fogg, George Blagden (Versailles, Black Mirror, Vikings) as Jean Passerpartout and Don Gilet (Eastenders, Dr Who) as Detective Fix amongst others.

One of the most celebrated tales of all time, Around the World in 80 Days is part high-octane thriller, part fascinating fantasy travelogue. Pragmatic gambler Phileas Fogg has made a gentlemanly wager to the members of his exclusive club: that he can circle the world in just 80 days, right down to the minute.

Fetching his newly appointed French valet, Fogg embarks on a fabulous journey across land and sea - by steamer, rail, and elephant - to win the bet of a lifetime.

Inspired by Jules Verne’s own sea travels and his fascination with circumnavigating the globe, the avid dreamer's picaresque voyage inspired generations of adventurers who were eager to best Verne's challenge - from 19th century journalist Nellie Bly to Monty Python's Michael Palin.

Featuring: George Blagden, Christopher Brandon, John Chancer, Scarlett Courtney, Josh Cowdery, Tim Delap, Sartaj Garewal, Don Gilet, Chris Grahamson, David Holt, Ryan Forde Iosco, Toby Jones, Peter Luke Kenny, Naveed Khan, Christos Lawton, Jack Monaghan, Raad Rawi, Vineeta Rishi, Luke Roskell, Richard Rycroft, Adam Sims, Thomas Stroppel, Homer Todiwala, Matilda Tucker, Amy Vicary-Smith, Julian Wadham, Georgia Warlow, Orlando Wells, Sarah Whitehouse and Sam Woolf.

White man is here to save the day.

tbh what did u expect from 18th century novel, but I low-key wanted to hear about slave trade and British suppression when I heard about cruel Hindu tradition and savage native Americans 😡

A classic tale of travel and adventure

The prejudices of English view evidently clouded the description which in turn is present in reverse view for me but the overall story is quite entertaining. The adventure is not elusive, overweening or lackluster; rather quite compact and illustrative only if necessary but the supporting characters except Passepartout and Mrs Aouda failed to create impact.
The Performance in Audible especially of Tobey Jones as Mr Fogg was excellent and really captivating.

Good Dramatization but Abridged Version of Story

I'm on a quest to read (or listen to) hundreds of classic stories. I'm not sure, having completed this one, that I can check it off my list because this is an adaptation of the story (which I discovered belatedly), not the entire thing. It would be nice if that was advertised more clearly. I will have to be more vigilant about reading reviews of Audible books so I don't waste another four hours with a trimmed down version of a classic. Still, it was enjoyable for what it was.

The performance is great, but this is not the full version. It is an abridged version and that does not seem to be listed on the store Page

the sound effects are not needed, and is a distraction from the story. unsure why they tried to force it into a great story.

Brilliant adaptation

This was a really fun romp - I love the way Anna Lea adapts classic fiction; she has a really light touch and manages to retain the style and energy of a novel whilst bringing it to life for audio perfectly.
This is a great production - well performed and produced - and the story was a really fun and intriguing adventure for my otherwise boring commute!

As vivid as the movie

The sound effects, the dramatic happenings were so succinct in the story that gives a feeling of an imaginary movie playing right before your eyes. Thanks to all that got involved in the process and making of the audio book.

Cringy amateur dramatics

Only OK.

It's a great story, but the adaptation is not for me,, it tears the guts out of it,, and is to disjoint. In saying that the narration is excellent.

Fabulous fast paced adventure

Rip roaring adventure with a great range of characters getting themselves into and out of sticky situations. Loved the cast, loved the sound effects and the little musical interludes between chapters. A really fun and immersive story. Naturally some views on cultures are outdatedly offensive, but I loved that the female protagonist was more ballsy than the other characters expected her to be.
