A gripping thriller!

Probably one of his less known novels. The plotting and the attention to details made it very enjoyable.

Excellent

Thanks to Audible I’ve become a Forsyth devotee & I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I listened to The Cobra, the follow-up to Avenger, beforehand but despite being out of order it didn’t affect my enjoyment. If you like Forsyth then you’ll like this. Eric Conger was a good narrator too.

It has to be COBRA the follow up to AVENGER.

Well researched

A gripping and well researched story. I learned a lot about the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. But the narrator mispronounced several words, which was very weird and irritating.

Unimaginative and formulaic

Forsyth tells a story of bravery cruelty and revenge. It’s somewhat formulaic but the research on modern war criminals, secret services and machinations of intrigue are accurate and indeed good enough to be source material. However, there is little subtlety in the language and the prose though grammatically correct is flat. The strands are eventually brought together but it’s an historical narrative with fiction thrown in rather than a well constructed story.

Good, if a little silly, thriller fun.

If you've read Forsyth before you'll know what you're going to get. Tight, twisting, well written stuff. A good story, a little silly with some dubious morality but if you take it for what it is, great fun.

Good easy riveting listen.

Good narration. But the author’s ability to replicate accents is terrible. Other than that not a bad performance.

Kazablanka's review

My favourite Forsyth novel. Read it many years ago, and it was just as fascinating on this second run through. Meticulous back story in the first part, which I enjoyed the most. The action, in the second part, was possibly a bit over the top, but an enjoyable, satisfying conclusion. Great naration, as well.

FF does it again

Mr Forsyth has once again provided a wide-ranging, detailed narrative that takes the reader into the tunnels of Vietnam at the height of the conflict, across to Bosnia gripped in the brutality of it's civil conflict and then to South America. the hero is a laconic, highly disciplined ex soldier driven to use his special skills to bring international criminals to justice... not Batman, but the philosophical process is much the same. FF ensures that the reader is provided every detail, all the background, so that the imagery comes alive and the tension is very real. This rivals The Negotiator in scope and story, but the similarities are recognizable. Beautifully read and delivered.

Great story highly recommended

Predictable but still thrilling, a carefully thought out plot, could easily be made as a great movie.

Narrator did an excellent job, though he need to work on his certain accents.
