    एकांतवास में सम्राट दुष्यंत को देवराज इंद्र का स्मरण हो आता है और वो उनका आह्वाहन करके उनसे सहायता माँगते हैं। अनभिज्ञ बनकर देवराज इंद्र सम्राट से देवासुर संग्राम में साथ देने का वचन लेते हैं और वचन भी देते हैं कि युद्ध के उपरांत भगवद कृपा और माँ आदिशक्ति के वरदान से उनके कष्टों व वेदना का निराकरण हो जाएगा। कई वर्षों के अनवरत युद्ध के उपरांत सम्राट दुष्यंत के हाथों पाताल लोक के असुर दुर्जय का अंत होता है। स्वर्गलोक में प्रसन्नता की लहर फैल जाती है। देवराज इंद्र स्वयं ही सम्राट दुष्यंत के सारथी बनकर उन्हें तपस्वी लोक ले जाते हैं जहाँ कश्यप मुनि के आश्रम में सम्राट की भेंट अपने पुत्र सर्वदमन भरत और धर्मपत्नी शकुंतला से होती है। देवराज इंद्र अपना वचन पूर्ण करते हैं और सबको हस्तिनापुर पहुँचाते हैं। इस प्रकार सर्वत्र हर्ष ही हर्ष छा जाता है।

    सम्राट दुष्यंत और देवी शकुंतला के बीच का वार्तालाप ऐसे मोड़ पे पहुँचता है जहाँ सम्राट को अत्यंत क्रोध आ जाता है। विलाप करती हुयी देवी शकुंतला को कश्यप मुनि एक दिव्य रथ में बिठाकर अपने संग स्वर्गलोक ले जाते हैं। देवराज इंद्र और मुनिवर सर्वप्रथम देवी शकुंतला को सांत्वना देते हैं फिर विधाता के भविष्य लीला का चक्र समझते हैं। देवी शकुंतला देवराज का सुझाव मानकर कश्यप मुनि के आश्रम में अपने बालक का लालन पालन करने को हामी भर देती हैं। इधर हस्तिनापुर में एक मछुआरे से सम्राट दुष्यंत की राजमुद्रिका मिलती है। विदूषक माधव्य के निवेदन पर सम्राट जैसे ही राजमुद्रिका का स्पर्श मात्र करते हैं कि ऋषि दुर्वासा का श्राप प्रभावहीन हो जाता है और सम्राट की स्मृति में सब कुछ चित्र की भाँति प्रकट हो जाता है।

    नई नवेली दुल्हन की तरह साजो श्रिंगार करके देवी शकुंतला की विदायी की गयी। हाथी पे सवार होकर वो हस्तिनापुर की ओर चलीं। मार्ग में कड़ी धूप जब बाधा बनी तो ईश्वर की कृपा से ऋतु परिवर्तन हो गया। शीतल हवा बहने लगी और काली घटाओं ने सूर्य की प्रखर किरणों को ढंक दिया। अंतत: प्रातः काल होते होते हस्तिनापुर पहुँच ही गयीं देवी शकुंतला। सम्राट दुष्यंत से भेंट के उपरांत उन्होंने देवी शकुंतला को स्वीकारने ही नहीं अपितु पहचानने से भी अस्वीकार कर दिया। वाद विवाद कटु होता गया। ऋषिकुमारों के आरोपों का खंडन करके क्रोधित हो चुके सम्राट दुष्यंत ने देवी शकुंतला से वार्तालाप करने का मन बनाया।

This is an age old story we all have heard of but when you listen to this in the new format it looks very interesting. I think schools should follow this and make children learn the stories in audiobook format. Very nice work Audible and team.
