In which I take great delight in the company of friends and the pleasures of fine food, music, and new acquisitions, whilst managing the cares and business attendant upon my service to my Lord and the affairs of the sea; daily life is enlivened by courtly visits, the Queen’s presence, honest discourse, and the comfort of home amid occasional petty quarrels and considerations of fortune. Throughout these November days, I observe with keen eye the changes in fashion and spirit of the times, attend to family matters and official duties, and find joy in the small but significant advancements that mark my commerce and contentment.
