The Portland Fire finished the 2026 season with a 90-82 overtime win over the Golden State Valkyries, ending a difficult campaign. Now, head coach and management face critical roster decisions. Emily Engstler’s rim protection remains vital, while Bridget Carleton’s 26-point performance highlights the need for consistent scoring.

Key players discussed include Carla Leite, Jordan Harrison, Veronica Burton, Gabby Williams, Nneka Ogwumike, and Holly Winterburn. We analyze the frontcourt battle between Engstler and emerging talents, the guard rotation featuring Harrison and Winterburn, and the urgent need for wing depth following injuries to Sarah Ashlee Barker and Luisa Geiselsoder.

The episode predicts roster cuts, identifying Iliana Rupert as potentially expendable. We also project a 25-30 win season if spacing improves and depth is addressed through free agency or trades. This comprehensive look at the Fire’s future covers all positional battles and strategic needs.
