Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein told Empire their Star Trek film will have “no legacy characters, nobody that you’ve met before.” It won’t be set in the Kelvin timeline either, and will take place a bit further into the future. Nerdist notes it would be the first Trek film without ties to previous cast members. The author hopes the only legacy element is a starship called Enterprise. TV Trek is winding down, with the remaining Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy episodes arriving next year and no new shows greenlit.
