Cruel. Coldblooded. Hades in a Brioni suit. Cillian Fitzpatrick has been dubbed every wicked thing on planet earth. To the media, he is The Villain. To me, he is the man who (reluctantly) saved my life. Now I need him to do me another small solid. Bail me out of the mess my husband got me into. What’s a hundred grand to one of the wealthiest men in America, anyway? Only Cillian doesn’t hand out free favors. The price for the money, it turns out, is my freedom.

Story
They call him The Mute for a reason. Hard, cold, and calculated, he rarely speaks. When he does, it's with disdain. When he does, his words aren't meant for me. When he does, my stomach flips and my world tilts on its axis. He is 33. I am 18. He's a single dad and my father's business partner. I'm just a kid to him and his enemy's daughter. He's emotionally unavailable. And I am...feeling. Feeling things I shouldn't feel for him. Trent Rexroth is going to break my heart. The writing isn't just on the wall, it's inked on my soul.

I didn't mean to star in a sex tape, okay? It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds. It just happened. Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston's nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan. The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family's oil company. Little does she know, that's not the only pipe I'll be laying....

They say your first kiss should be earned. Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky. They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred. Mine were broken before we left church. They say your heart only beats for one man. Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end. I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit. Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me...now my heart was completely iced. I took her first kiss. She took the only thing I loved. I was poor. She was rich. The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast. Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project. Her housemate. Her tormentor. They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it's true. The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares. He is a brilliant lawyer. They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right. No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking. He is my forbidden, shiny apple. The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth. He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend. One thing you should know before you judge me: I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first. Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance. Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. Hopefully, he isn't too late.

Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother. And that his best friend has a crush on me. And that I just moved in with them. Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

I have a simple plan. Finish Royal Elite School and get into my dream university. One glance from the school’s king blows my plan up in smoke. One glance and he suffocates my air. One glance and he issues his death sentence. His first words spiral my life into irreparable chaos. “I will destroy you.” Everything about Aiden King is black. Black mind. Black heart. Black soul. I should’ve remained quiet and endured the time I have left. I didn’t. I made the irrevocable mistake of provoking the king on his throne.

It started out like any normal day. Then the fender bender happened. The guy I collided with drove an expensive car and was drop-dead gorgeous. Too bad he was also a total jerk. We argued over whose fault it was and any other thing that came out of his condescending mouth. Eventually, the police came and we went our separate ways. The insurance companies would have to figure things out. I had a job interview to get to anyway - one I was excited about. Though that excitement changed to disappointment the moment the person interviewing me walked in. The guy from the accident.

I’d never forgotten him - a man I’d yet to meet. Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break. Until one day it did. Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing. Griffin forgave me, and we were able to rekindle our childhood connection.

Célian Laurent. Manhattan royalty. Notorious playboy. Heir to a media empire...and my new boss. I could have impressed him, if not for last month's unforgettable one-night stand. I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory - namely, his wallet. Now he's staring me down like I'm the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I'm supposed to take it. Publisher's Summary
Bane
Naked surfer. Habitual pothead. A con, a liar, a thief, and a fraud.
Last I heard, he was extorting the rich and screwing their wives for a living.
Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all - looking humbled.
Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally - cut boys from my life. Permanently.
Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.
Jesse Carter
Hot as hell, cold as ice.
I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.
She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.
She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.
More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.
Little does she know, I have the f--king teeth for it.

A MONUMENTAL & SLOW-BURN TO REDEMPTION
L.J.Shen is an auto download author for me.. and, this lyrical poetical book not only highlights why, but it also cements her place as one of my favorite author too. The quick-witted, snappy dialogue, witty one liners, thought provoking raw scenes, passion-filled pleasures, heartfelt sentiments, rich multi-layered characters, seismic chemistry, simmering sexual chemistry, the anti-hero you can’t help but fall in love with and the addictive storyline are all here.. but so is a lot more. More.. that had me holding my breath, more that had me reeling in disbelief, more that had me high fiving a heroine who claimed her life back, more that had me swooning a hero who started off as anything but one.. but redeemed himself beautifully. And more because their touching journey to forever was filled with dark pitfalls they climbed out from, unforeseen hurdles they cleared, mountain they moved and demons they slayed.
Twenty-five year old Bane is a self-professed asshole, a pot-smoking surfer, an extortionist, a liar, a con artist, a thief, a manwhore and a paid escort for anyone’s hire.. his moral compass is way waaay off and he’s unapologetically proud of it too. He is also a beautiful, sexy-as-sin, tattooed and pierced bad-boy alpha, a brash and blunt player, a business owner and an entrepreneur.. which is what leads him into Jesse’s life.. because, for the backing of $6 million dollars from her stepdad for Bane’s dream project, he is secretly contracted to bring a broken girl they call ‘the ghost’ back to life. However, that comes with one caveat.. do not, under any circumstances, have sex with her.. well that’s no problem she’s so not his type. He’s a carefree player, a warm-hearted womanizer, he doesn’t need or want complications and can get any woman he wants - so he takes the deal.. the deal that’s going to blow his well-ordered life apart, shatter his world and piece it all back together again.. and Bane has a broken, damaged, haunted, untouchable twenty year old to thank for that. Because it will eventually unlock her bitter dark memories, empower her inner strength, ignite her buried courage, enable her to face her past and she’ll become an avenging angel.. and slay all their demons. And Jesse’s heartbreaking tale?.. well that’s her emotional story to tell.
Worth a credit? Pheweee, where do I start with saying how much this is definitely worth a credit. Is it the writing skills of this well-loved author who has penned an unforgettable love story weighted down with so many emotional feels? Or is it the drama, angst, passion and pleasure that balanced and blended and brewed and baked over howevermany delicious hours? Perhaps it’s the awesome character growth that bends and binds and alters and remoulds them both? Or maybe it’s the dual POV narration which make these characters and their stories so captivating to listen to as I smiled and sighed and frowned and cursed and prayed along with them? Well, whatever the answer is, I’m grateful.. and long may this trio continue to mix and weave their magic. The last story in the Sinners of Saints series.. and each one can be a standalone.

Bane!!!!
Bane!!!!! I am still experiencing a major book hangover with this one. I was hooked from page one until the VERY LAST PAGE! I wanted to move in and live in this story, in this town, with these beautifully flawed characters. This made me feel ALL THE THINGS and I loved it!! Gahhhhhhh! Pure freakin' magic! The narration was spot! I can't think of a better narrator to bring Bane to life and Savannah was the perfect Jessie!

Doesn't go well with the series
I found it hard to get into this - there was so much dialogue and I couldn’t find an anchor into the story. I also didn’t like the characters - I found Bane vulgar and seedy, and Jesse inconsistent, and weak.... the author kept trying to tell me otherwise, but I didn’t need to be told, I needed to be shown through their actions. There was a lot of tell vs show in this. And I felt like the pacing was all off too - it wasn’t slow enough to believe. Like, Jesse is house bound, but one encounter with Bane and she’s not anymore? It was too quick. Considering what she is went through I would have liked a deeper look the psychological side and have Bane actually work to pull her out of her shell. It couldn’t have been something really deep and beautiful, but this was surface level. I mean, she knew him a few days and was grinding against him? It was too quick.

Sad the Series Has Ended.
I have been reading this series for the past two weeks and I can honestly say that I’m sad that there are no more stories to tell us. I really wish that Vaugn would’ve had his own story. I actually read the stories backwards. I picked up Luna‘s story first and then read Daria’s.
I didn’t think I would like Bane’s story because he wasn’t one of the original hotheads. I also am not into a lot of tattoos, but I do like Russians. It was nice to have Vicious in the story because Bane was a lot like him. I like the fact that they both had to save each other, even though Bane was hired to help Jesse.
It was a really sweet story. I love it when the bad guys lose.

Best 🙌👏
Ok - I have to say that I was hesitant to listen to Banes story because he wasn’t a Hot Hole and the synopsis didn’t really thrill me BUT I am so glad I did. I loved his witty comments “Moses on a Cracker” and his nonchalant attitude. I loved that Jesse gave him a run for his money and pushed him. I loved Jesse’s strength and come back after all she went through. I am holding my breath for another from Shen. She is becoming one of my favorite authors.

Amazing and so unexpected
Bane was amazing and nothing of what I expected. I was the most nervous about reading Bane because his character was not like the other in the Sinners of Saint series. I don’t know how L. J. Shen does it, she’s amazing with every story.
This store about Bane and Jesse was emotional and raw. Jesse is strong but unsure of herself but you just can’t help rooting for her from the beginning of the book. Bane definitely meets his match when he meets Jesse. There banter and story nothing like anything I have read. This is a must read.

WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT BANE!!!
Bane is probably the best L J Shen book to date. Vicious being a close second. But there is something about Bane. He’s damaged, yet willing to live. He’s a smart ass, but as clever as hell. He’s dirty and sexy. He is the absolute paradoxical anti-hero.
But one of the best qualities I enjoyed about the book was Bane’s dialogue. His clairvoyant attitude sets him apart.
The male narration by Christian Rummel was spot on for Bane’s character. He speaks at a faster pace than other narrators which is consistent with the speed at which Bane’s thought process works. He’s constantly thinking and debating and reflecting and at times philosophising.
The female character was very well developed but I found her narration annoying at times. I think Christian Rummel did a better job.
What’s not to love! Well done Shen! My only regret is it appears there won’t be a Bane part 2.
