'For what matters it how many or great the difficulties, to a man who has made up his mind to accomplish a certain task?'

A forgotten gem from Ingersoll Lockwood's canon, Baron Trump's Marvellous Underground Journey is a charming tale of adventure and mischievousness – one which still delights readers to this day.

Following in the footsteps of other key children's books from the Victorian era, Lockwood's vibrant novel centres on restless aristocratic youth, Wilhelm Heinrich Sebastian Von Troomp, otherwise known as Baron Trump, as he searches for adventure. Bored of his life of luxury in the Trump family home, Baron stumbles across a magical portal which transports him to the Russian Arctic, where he finds a curious underground world beneath his feet. As he journeys downward, Baron discovers strange new settings, and even stranger inhabitants. But the further he explores, the hazier and hazier his path home becomes… An enchanting blend of science fiction and fantasy, Baron Trump's Marvellous Underground Journey is a celebration of the worthwhile pursuit of taking adventure into your own hands.

Ingersoll Lockwood (1841 – 1918) was an American writer and lawyer. A prolific author, he penned several children's books, novels, poetry, political essays and other non-fiction – sometimes under the pseudonym Irwin Longman. His work spanned several genres, including dystopian fiction, sci-fi and fantasy.
