Buch Samuelis aus der Heiligen Schrift: König David entbrennt in Liebe zu Bathseba, der Frau des tapferen Soldaten Urias. David lässt Urias durch seinen Feldherrn Joab in einen aussichtslosen Kampf schicken, Urias wird erschlagen und David nimmt Bathseba zur Frau. "Aber die Tat gefiel dem Herrn übel..." und er zieht König David durch Nathan zur Rechenschaft.

In dem dramatischen Monolog von André Gide erzählt König David dem Feldherrn Joab diese Geschichte. Übersetzung: Franz Blei. Bearbeiter: Gerhard Prager, Musik: Heinrich Feischner, Regie: Robert Vogel. André Paul Guillaume Gide (1869 1951) war ein französischer Schriftsteller. Er war ab 1909 Herausgeber der „Nouvelle Revue Francaise“ und erhielt 1947 den Literaturnobelpreis.
